well the day those BIG companies stop buying 'air time' you might stop seeing all those annoying sometimes entertaining commercials. You could always get Satelite the more you are willing to pay the less commercials you will see.

Those advertisers pay money to have their adverts aired in the time slot of the program you are watching. That money is a major reason we have tv shows to watch at all.
Because even if you're paying for cable/satellite, that alone is not enough to run the networks. Without the commercials the fees for television service would be much higher.
we r paying the cable/sattelite company for bringing the service to us, then the networks sell ads to pay for the programs they do (and make a little extra)
There is a difference though. You don't HAVE to pay for service because TV is still broadcast over the air for free and if you're setup properly then you can receive it. Granted, it's only a few channels and not the best quality but there you have it.
Of course they're double dipping because they can. As well, inclusion of commercials is done by the cable companies (so that you get local commercial contents) but dictated by the networks which send the shows to the cable companies to distribute.
I'm not sure who gets that money though. you're right it's a great racket and I wish I thought of it.
