Why do we love SOAP OPERAS?!

Ouch - do we? I thought we didnt like them very much, or is that just me? I think that for people who do really dig them it is an escapism ritual that they can look forward to on a regular basis... pretty harmless stuff I guess.
people love to watch other people's lives.
because the characters live such interesting lives and There like pets we can watch, just w/out having to feed or clean up after.
Because they have more drama than we have in our own lives. and when our lives seem pretty bad we just put eastenders on and it makes us feel so much better

Why do YOU love soap operas? Why do babies pee in their diapers? Why do dogs fart?
I myself can't stand soap operas, but on occasion watch pro wrestling which is sort of similar. I think we love familiar characters that reinvent their personalities on a regular basis and the plot lines that take FOREVER to culminate.:)
because we identify with them and compare our lives to them.
we dont love them, we just get used to them being on, me thinks its a government (big brother) style thing just to keep us all hooked and under control...haha
I DVR a couple of soaps - it allows me an hour a day to just forget about the work day and relax.
Not everyone loves them and I only enjoy one. For me it is good stories and character development. There are characters I love and others I hate but mostly I enjoy the characters that I love to hate. I equate it to being a sports fan and I see the same attraction as I live in the midst of Red Sox Nation - there are teams and players we love, hate - and love to hate. And they give us a great story, too.
Soaps and sports - it's all in the name of fun and entertainment.
Because they're entertaining in an unrealistic way and they make me laugh. THey're an escape. I love them.
We love soaps because they are really fun to watch, and so unrealistic. We know that this would never happen in our own lives, so why not watch it ACTUALLY happening to someone else?
I love OLTL and GH. Soaps are an escape. I can sit down for 2 hours, relax and forget about everything else. They're entertaining and definitely addicting.
Sorry, but I abhor them. They were always on in my house when I was growing up. Hey I did watch one...Dark Shadows, that one was great!
Because soap operas are just like everyone's daily life, they are very interesting to watch.
1. We can live out our fantasies vicariously through them.
2. Because most of the time their lives are so much more messed up than our own that it makes us feel better.

Well because it is soo depressing. And there lives look so full.
The only one I watch is Guiding Light and it's been a part of my life since I was a little girl. I always watched it with my mom and it's just something that has stuck with me. It's nice to have an hour to myself where I can get away from everything that's gone on during the day and sit back and watch my favorite characters go through their ups and downs.
And besides.....Edmund was back. I wouldn't miss that for the world. :)p
