Okay so,
Serena's mom and dan's dad used to be lovers.
Really good lovers.
Then Serena's Grandmama offered Serena's Mom to either leave Dan's dad and get her inheritance or to be with dan's dad and get nothing!.
Serena's mom chose to get the inheritance which made Dan's dad very upset but they both marry other people.
The problem is, Dan's dad thought Serene's mom chose her present husband over him which is wrong because she loves him very much but The grandmother's offer (the inheritance) is hard to resist.
But now, Dan's father knows that serena's mom left him because of the inheritance so he calls her and tells her that he wishes he would have never let her leave him.

im not sure of this: but i think lily(serenas mom) had a romance with rufus(dans dad) and then allison(dans mom) came into the picture and dan liked allison more, or i think allison threatened lily. i think lily was like serena when she was younger. and rufus was like dan when he was younger. in the 2 latest episode they talked a lot about the whole history
