Are TV adverts getting more bizarre?!

Question: Is it just me?
first it was the Cadburys chocolate one with the gorilla
Then it was a car which goes about the road in various states of "undress"
Now it's Dolce & Gabbana watches.

What happened to the days when a company advertising their products told you

1;What is was. and what it did.

thats all we need

Come to think of it, they are. they actually show some very stupid adverts that have no relevancy to the subject.

its to get us to watch it over and over to understand the advert hoping that once we have worked it out then we will want to buy the product. its actually quite clever as there have been loads of questions on here about the cadbury gorilla so it just shows that its working

Viewers and consumers are much more technology/marketing/media aware nowaday, so in order for people to remember these adverts they have to stand out.

But there have always been hard sell adverts (when they directly tell you what it is about) and soft sell adverts (indirectly tell you). It's not really a new thing.

There have been loads of adverts (very well made too) that didn't have a lot to do with the products. FOr example the Guiness adverts of the 90s (surfers and white horses riding the waves - just one example), and even the Tango adverts of the late 80s where that orange man went round slapping people. What about the Smirnoff Ice adverts with the Judderman puppet?

It's not a new thing, it's just the way things develop.
