Why does Gordan Ramsay always have his coat unbuttoned?!

Question: Is this a top chef thing or what? I always see him in his shows with his coat unbuttoned on top does this mean something in the chef world?

I'm a chef by trade, and like Ramsay, usually leave my top button undone.
It's purely a comfort thing. When the buttons are done all the way up to the neckline, it feels similar to wearing a necktie (which, believe me, in a kitchen is NOT fun)
Releasing the top button allows a bit more breathing space without the jacket feeling so restrictive. I only ever do it up when I'm on display to the public or doing special functions

I guess it's like me and button up shirts. I never button all the way up. I just don't like the way it feels. I think it's a comfort thing.

i dont know anything about chefs so i dont know if they have a code or something as weird as that sounds. but maybe he thinks he looks way cool like that. i mean c'mon he does look cool lol jk hes an awesome chef.

Yeah...he probably just doesn't take the time to button anything because he's go serious A.D.D. Have you noticed that the man just can't sit still. He's always bouncing.

I get a kick out the fact that at the beginning of every show he's on, they show all of the women going ga ga for him. By about half way through the show they all hate his guts.
