Why are the characters in South Park 8 year olds?!

its more funnier when their little kids cuz you wont think that little kids know these kinds of things. plus to change it would be bad

i read something one time that pretty much all of the characters (reguarly occuring ones) are based on people that matt stone and trey parker knew. and i think that stan and kyle are loosely based on them and crazy things they did in school. oh and also because its more funny to hear a 4th grader cussing and having crazy adventures than an 8th grader. just to be fair, they are in 5th grade now which means they are 9 or 10 haha
I believe they would prefer that the show make less sense, so they keep them at age 8-9. And actually they were in the third grade then they were promoted to the fourth grade, so they are now perpetually fourth graders.
b/c it makes it way more funnier to have little kids being that bad.
