Whats going on with doctor who?!
Question: right so we all now know that billie piper is returning ( YAY ) but how long for ?!
ive been reading the papers and teletext and they all say differnt things..
well so next year.. catherine tate is going to be playing his assistant right? and freema is going to return for 3 episodes in that series as martha then there all going to have a years break? okay but ive seen a picture in yesterdays paper of billie piper standing next to catherine tate in doctor who!!
and people are saying billy is only returning for 3 episodes? i thought she was returning for a full series as his assistant after the break :(
and ive also heard that there going to be showing a few doctor who speacials in 2009 while the break is going on.. and david tennent is going to be playing the doctor in them BUT ive heard that john simm might be in the frame to be playing the doctor while the break is on?

OK - here is the official BBC position. Anything else should be considered speculation, rumour or hearsay (references to links are in brackets after each point).
Billie Piper will be returning to the series as Rose Tyler for three episodes, which will also feature both Catherine Tate, as Donna Noble, and Freema Agyeman, as Martha Jones (1).
The BBC have also stated that "Anything you may read elsewhere about when, how or for how long Rose returns to Doctor Who should be treated as pure speculation at this point" (2).
Catherine Tate will be appearing as Donna, the Doctors new companion, throughout the next series (3).
Freema Agyeman will be appearing as Martha in three episodes of series 2 of Torchwood, before returning to Doctor Who part way through the next series to join the Doctor and Donna as part of the Tardis crew (3, 4).
David Tennant has no plans to give up his role as the Doctor in the near future. It has been confirmed that he will continue to play the Doctor throughout the next series as well as in the 2008 Christmas episode and the three special episodes in 2009 (5).
The 2009 hiatus for Doctor Who is happening to specifically allow David Tennant time off to do some Shakespearean acting in the theatre, and to give Russel. T Davies a break into the bargain. Jane Tranter (the controller of BBC drama) has strongly suggested that Tennant will be returning to play the Doctor in series 5 in 2010, although the BBC can't confirm casting that far ahead (5, 6).
Various rumours and speculation that either John Simm or James Nesbitt will be replacing Tennant as the Doctor in 2010 have been strongly denied by all concerned (7,8)
John Simm may, in fact, be returning as the Master in the next series, despite his apparent death at the end of the last series and denials by Russel. T Davies. He has apparently been seen playing the Master during filming for the new series, but this is unconfirmed (9)
I hope this clears up your confusion.
billie piper will return for at least 3 episodes at the end of the fourth season, doesn't mean she won't be in the fifth season. and will star alongside freema and catherine tate, that has been confirmed. there is 3 specials in 2009, they've already been filmed with tennant as the doctor. as for tennant leaving, rumours are flying around the place, but BBC won't confirm it. it's either true or false, that's all they have to say.
