Project Runway's menswear challenge tonight - what's the big deal?!

Question: On tonight's show a big deal was made about how this challenge was a first for Project Runway. But does anyone else remember challenges in the previous seasons where the designers did makeovers for each other (I believe Chloe won the challenge designing for Nick V.) and when in season 3 the designers had to create outfits for themselves (Jeffrey won). Why is such a big deal being made out of this one?

And does anyone know if menswear really is that challenging, or was it just because it was out of the comfort zone of the designers?

i was a little let down on the super duper hard challenge. i mean, i know they all have women's wear backgrounds but they could of been a little creative.
but as we all saw, some people flourished and other people just crashed and burned.

Good point ! That outfit Chloe made for Nick was a fabulous 3 piece number. And it was her 1st time making Menswear!

I've heard them say on the show before that menswear is particularly difficult to design and create because of the cut and number of pieces, etc...

I wouldn't know though...I can't even sew buttons on right... : (
