It's because of the writers strike. The Writers Guild of America has been on strike for a month now. For an explanation, see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJ55Ir2jC... for good details. Basically, the writers currently get paid 4 cents for each DVD sold - an amount that was agreed upon in 1988 - and they want 8 cents. And, despite the fact that actors, directors and producers get paid for content streamed or downloaded on the internet, writers currently get paid nothing. They want a few cents of that as well. The studios have refused, therefore the strike. Production on many shows, Heroes included, has been shut down because the producers, directors and casts support the writers and refuse to cross the picket lines. Tim Kring, the creator of Heroes, as well as most of the cast, have joined the writers on the picket lines to show their support.
Heroes was supposed to have two volumes this year. Volume 2 was set to be 11 episodes, Volume 2 to be the second half of the season. Before the strike was called, they made some changes to Episode 11 so it could be a season finale, just in case. Talks between the studios and the writers resumed yesterday. If the studio execs agree to let the writers have a few pennies, then production can pick up after the holidays and we'll have a full season. If the studios insist on being greedy, the strike will continue and the season will probably be over as of December.

Yeah I figure they must not have had many new episodes made when the writers went on strike and since they are still on strike they didn't have any new ones to show so they just ended it early I'd say it really depends on when the strike comes to an end.
The episode last night was the second to last episode before the fall finale. Next week is the last one until next season.
They called it the "fall finale" (next week) meaning: no more new shows (after the one next week) until after Christmas.

Worst case scenario it starts up again next year. The writers strike is anticipated to be over by mid to late spring. It sucks but the strike is serving a purpose. I'll just have to catch up on my reading.
It's The Heroes early winter finale because of the Writer's Strike postponing production. Should the strike end before 2008, new episodes would return in Febuary or March and the season will end in June.
i dont know! i wanted it to last waaay longer. did you know that they're auctioning off or selling the paintings from the guy who does the issac mendez paintings? he's color blind
nope it is the season finale because of the damned strike. that just makes me soooooooooooooooooooo mad cuz i love the show. now we'll have to wait until next september to see new ones again! and we're getting jipped. we're not even getting half of the scheduled episodes!
