Isnt prime time tv now really boring and nothing good on?!

Question: I havent had a tv in about 4 years (I was travelling alot). So now I am back home in the USA and have decided to get cable once again and I have discovered that everything on tv is horrible. I cant find one good thing to watch. Its all so horrible. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

p.s. I think reality shows are the worst and most boring of all. Shame on all of you people who helped to make it so popular!

I know exactly what you mean. I don't think that your problem is that the primetime tv has stopped being good. I think it's your traveling that is causing the problem. You have been away from tv so long that you have gained a perspective that has allowed you to appreciate the finer things in life, and and in turn you have been sucked away from the brain-melting item that makes people become zombies.

Tv is only good if you are adjusted to the messages it brings to you and the way that it tells its stories. The way that television shows express life situations is very, very different from what is real, and after spending so much time away from it and actually experiencing the way that things are really done, when you go back to watching television, many things about many shows can be seen as being rediculous.

I spent a year away from television, and now I can't stand watching tv. The only thing I can put up with is documentaries, and some shows on the discovery channel. All of those shows that are so hyped up, like Desperate Housewives, Heroes, Grey's Anatomy... I've tried them and I find them to be silly.

You were away for four years... it may take some effort to get back into the warped brain levels of the "tv watchers"

traveling changes you.

Yes, didn't they tell us that you could only get the good shows on cable, but now the only good shows are on standard television.

Yeah its soo boring its all the same show. But different nmaes.

not really.
but i live in australia.
shouldnt it be getting better in the US anyway as it is winter over their. and winter tv is better as more people watch in winter therefore better shows are on. here in oz, it is now summer until next year so tv in summer is usualy worse. and we get all your US shows...grrr, as they are shown in the winter over their meaning its summer over hear.
australian shows are so much better. move here.

It has been like that for over twenty years. Except for Cheers and Seinfeld.

Ever since Seinfield stopped I have stopped watching TV.

There are still good shows on TV. The problem for someone like you is that the best shows are serialized, which means it's practically impossible to just jump in the middle and figure out what's going on. It's both a strength and a weakness of that genre. There's a lot of crap on TV, and that's always been true. And yes, reality shows suck. But there are still some good shows out there, you just have to hunt them down.

However, if you're willing to rent DVDs, check out some of the following to see what you think:

Heroes
Prison Break
Lost
House, MD
Nip/Tuck
Rome
Deadwood
The Sopranos

I totally agree. I rarely watch ABC, CBS, NBC, etc. I prefer HGTV, Food Network, and TV Land.
