Question: Austria withdraw from Eurovision in protest at "political" voting.
Next time, there will be 2 semi finals instead of one, and all those who don't make it to the final still get to vote.
Austria argues taking part is futile because the eastern bloc nations vote for each other like old friends, rather than voting based on the song and the performance. They say there is no point competing in a competition which only the eastern nations have a realistic chance of winning.
Should Royaume Uni follow suit, or risk Oeuf sur le visage once more?

Yes - the UK should withdraw. We don't get the votes, whatever the song is like, as many of the other countries don't like us, due to Iraq and other historical reasons. However, they let us compete each year, as we contribute an enormous amount of money towards the competition, allowing it to take place in countries that could not afford to stage it otherwise. If we withdrew, then the competition may well cease to exist after a year or so!
I think more countries should follow suit, maybe then someone will pay attention and stop all the political voting, it's ridiculous.
yes i agree... eurovision is based on who you know and like and not the song or act.
but lets face it... the UK's enteries have been a little bit 'crap' recently havent they.
Well done Austria! This event is a complete farce and should have been scrapped years ago.

if you refuse to play a game because you have no chance of winning, then you are not going to be missed.
You must play, and stand up for yourself.
Laugh at the others, as they laugh at you, or shrink into nothingness.
Us English have no hope of ever winning again, but who cares?
If it was not for us, the others would not even be playing.

i wouldnt want uk to stop entering. i think that when it comes to the finals, only countries participating in the finals should be allowed to vote. the whole idea of the 2 semis now is to stop as many countries from the east getting to the finals through political/friendly voting.
I thought there were laws against discrimination.

Oh it has got so bad now. They should scrap it altogether. Its a disgrace, it shouldnt be allowed to happen.
of course it should continue participating,i mean you don't enter the contest in order to win,you take the risk to participate no matter what the result will be.and all of u keep repeating that the whole contest is based on eastern bloc voting and I'm sure 99% of you can't support this...you just heart it from somewhere and keep repeating it like a parrot.oh my god if you had the patience to think for a minute the whole thing you would have realized that eastern bloc voting is not enough to detyermine the winner,the winning song gets votes from everybody. the results are a clear example.last year finland was the winner and this year it was at the botom places,this shows that when people like a song vote for it if they don't they won't vote.besides i don't think that now people care so much about politics and relations between countries,they watch the contest cz it entertains them and the vast majority votes for their favourite song. if the results were based on a bloc voting the results wouldn't be the same every year?everyone would vote fr the same country every year...let's face the reality,this does not make sense,if western counries sent good songs would get a better place,if they keep sending craps things won't change and so people stop complaining...
