Grey's Anatomy...too far fetched?!
Question: I've just downloaded and watched the first 8 episodes of Season 4, and i have to wonder, what in Meredith Grey's life makes her such a screw-up? I'm just not grasping any plausible excuse for her inability to commit to Sheppard in any way, yes she's had ups and downs, but not enough to make her this bi-polar!
Can any one defend it, or is it too far fetched for others?

She has commitment issues (obviously).
Her mother was an excellent surgeon. She would work long shifts and was never home. This led to the affair with Richard Webber (who is now Meredith's boss). The affair led to her father walking out on them when she was a little girl. Apparently her mother was emotionally abusive to her father calling him spineless and whatnot.
Then she was having to take care of her mother in a nursing home because she had Alzheimers. She would talk to Meredith as if she was someone else, and was usually talking about Meredith in an unflattering way. Then when she became lucid for a day she told Meredith that after all of those years, she would have expected Meredith to have become someone not so ordinary. She pretty much told her daughter that she was a disappointment.
That's when Meredith almost died, and her mother did die. She's been very closed off since then.
She also found out that she had two half sisters. They were in the hospital because one of them was having a baby. There was also the incident where her dad's wife came in with hiccups and died.. Her dad slapped her for "killing" his wife.. Then come to find out this season that Lexi is an intern. Now she finds out that her dad is an alcoholic.
Then the whole Addison / Derek thing.. Anyway, do you see how she got so screwed up? I think that it's definitely enough to make someone that crazy.
i'm not really defending her, but it probably doesn't help that her mother was never there and her dad is a wacko...plus her mom was cheating on him with the chief, who is now her boss, and the fact that her mother was like the best female surgeon ever, so she has to live with all those expectations.

doing stupid things is the heart of conflict.
if everyone was happy and smart,
there would be no conflict, no drama, and no show.
why do you think people watch?
to see them fall in love, fight, breakup, etc. over again.
it's hollywood crap that is supposed to make your brain just die, that's how they make money and then you have idiots trying to copy what they do in real life!
yeah i agree. i asked this question awhile ago. she is just getting annoying. i just wanna smack her and tell her to grow up and stop being a baby. lol
yes, she's definitely messed up - one of the most depressed characters i've ever seen and the scary thing is, she's a doctor! what i really can't figure out is exactly what Sheppard sees in her - even when they were first together, she was a mush
i think she's just too old to b acting like a kid. have u seen the crows feet. she should fix up b4 she passes her use b date and just get with him and stick to it.
esp if she ever wants to have a kid.
i think it is because her dad was never there and when he was there all hae did was make matters worse. Her mother on the other hand was tough on her and was never there either. Also when she got alzheimers she forced her to keep it a secret and made her take care of her and in the third season when both her step mom and her real mom died and her dad lashed out on her gave her more issues. and not to mention she just about died too.
