Actually, Duchovny left to pursue his film career. In season 9 they were shooting in Los Angeles (they moved at the start of season 6 from Vancouver).
The only season 9 episode that Duchovny appeared in was the final episode, "The Truth."
Yes, the new X-Files is a movie. I think it'll be better that way. I'm counting the days to July 25th, '08!
I really miss the series too.
Mulder was abducted and held on board an alien ship for the better part of the last season. He was finally realeased and then presumably died and was buried but... he came back to life and was with Scully in the last episode as Cancer Man got his in a desert cave from a missile.
X-2 is a movie... sorry.
That was well over ten years ago. I think it was because him and the network couldn't agree on something, i think he hated filming in canada because he wanted to be with his family. When they couldn't come to an agreement they made the storyline the way it is. He eventually agreed to do one more episode..
