I believe a few years back the rights to "It's a Wonderful Life" was bought by NBC. Word had it that some people were tired of it airing almost every week by many different channels. The last few years they only show it around Christmas time.
Republic Pictures claimed the copyright to "It's A Wonderful Life" in 1995 (the original copyright expired in 1974 and the movie went into public domain,hence all the endless showings of it prior to this) by proving that it owned the musical score to the movie,enabling them to take it out of public domain. (Republic Pictures has since been absorbed into Paramount.)
NBC has had the exclusive broadcast rights to the movie since 1996 and airs it at least twice during the Christmas season.
