Why do today's reality shows have to have an element from the Gay community?!

Question: I'm not having a pop at this section of society - indeed my sister - an ex-Adjutant is gay, and her partner - an ex senior officer from the Pay Corps..before they resigned their comissions and started a new life together years ago

I feel that producers of reality shows deliberately cast the contestants with a view and the knowlege from pyschological profiling to create the maximum ratings and profit.

Sadly it is done at the cost of morality..

Sadly it is done at the cost of morality..

cause were all just super duper pc sweety.

It's simply political correctness.

if u say so.

and why do we need to know what their old jobs were???? whats that all about??? as if we care!!!

i don't see what you are talking about, maybe you are looking for it

to get the bitchiness factor in the hope of increased ratings

I think its done to represent that section of society, it would be boring if the whole programme had lets say, just white female straight contestants, so they have mixed gender, race and sexuality. Variety is the spice of life and I like reality shows that have a good mix of people from all parts of society.

i agree

they have to have at least one gay person in everything now including eastenders (new one coming in new year)

Well, since one in ten people are gay, they are trying to represent the population.
So you are saying gays are immoral?

Token gesture.

Why do you need to explain yourself and why you asked this Q, I personally couldn't care less about peeps sexuality but like to be entertained.

I can understand what you say though, that the producers are trying to target the widest audience but if so(I'm in the UK) where is the Asian, because it's not just sexuality but race as well interest in "I'm a celebrity get me out of here"

EDIT: Having re-read your Q I think your have real issues in your life that you need to address as you are obviously unhappy, can't you let people(your sister) be happy and if not is that not YOUR problem?

Kind regards

Elric

PS: and yes I am straight just thoughtful

The morality issue is YOUR opinion. Not everyone shares that opinion. I think it's because not everyone is a bigot who sees it necessary to condemn a group of people or to discriminate against them. There are a whole lot of gay people out there whether people like it or not and maybe they'd like to see themselves represented on shows....much like the black community has complained about in the past....same way the Dora the Explorer is hispanic.....for the hispanic community to have some representation. They also cast people that are different for a reason....to make the show more interesting. It wouldn't be very interesting, say on The Real World, if everyone was exactly the same and they all got along.

An answer to one of my Q's

"that's RTV for ya"- as u said they r only after ratings and money. Most of the time the gay ppl that r drafted r really bad stereotypes and r not good reps for homosexuals.

Again at my age, over the years its become a necessity from every walk of life be it gender, sexuallity, colour, race and so on. to be represented in one form or another,or the squealing begins.

Why do we have to have Reality Shows? A decent programme would make a change.

well...um, okay!
have a nice day!!! :)
