He had Lupus which made his blood work come back funny causing the team to view his blood type as AB when in fact it was only type A. So they gave him the wrong blood type which lead to all the other issues, and the poor guy has Lupus. So some symptoms were from Lupus (like the scewed lab results) and some were from the reaction to getting the wrong blood type.
And big shock on "big love" and his cut. Not the final four I had expected to end up with.

Yes, he had lupus which caused his body to create B anti-bodies so his blood appeared to be Type AB when he actually had Type A. He was given the wrong blood because they mistakenly thought he had Type AB, which made him sicker.
