I think in the 1960s it wasn't unforeseeable for people to imagine that in the latter part of the decade we'd all be riding around in jet propelled cars and wearing silver suits, a la Jetsons. It was a time of unrivalled optimism where space travel was concerned and you only have to look at the advances in science over the last few decades to see that the thought of a genetically designed race of super-beings wasn't too far off the mark, although it may take a few decades more before we really start seeing cloned and genetically modified human beings.
