Who is dr. who?!

Question: So, being an American, I was clueless as to what this show was.
So I scrolled through my channels and found the show on BBC America. I got addicted. But I have no idea what's going on. All I know is that Dr. Who gets reincarnated to another doctor, and that the blonde girl isn't in the show anymore. I've only seen a few episodes, like "Fear Her." I want to know more about the plot, and I want to know what happened to the blonde and who is that girl who replaced her. Tell me all you know about the Series David Tennant is in. Thanks in advanced!

(Edit): At the time of the current series, the Doctor is one of two surviving members of a race of people known as the Time Lords, from the planet Gallifrey. The series has been running since the 1960s, with David Tennant being either the 9th or 10th incarnation of the Doctor. The blonde girl, Billie Piper, met the previous incarnation of the doctor in its US premiere on the SciFi channel, when the Doctor was played by Chris Eccleston (more playing an occasional guest appearance on Heroes), and during one of the Doctor's battles with the Daleks, a species the Doctor has fought throughout the series, she was left behind. Her recent replacement was Freema Agyeman,

Right....

Doctor Who started on TV in the UK back in 1963. It followed the adventures of a man called "the Doctor" and his companions, through time and space. He has a time machine called the Tardis, which is bigger on the inside than the out, and is shaped like a 1960s police box.

Later in the series we learned some more amazing things about this "Doctor". He can "regenerate" into a different body when he's mortally hurt. He can do this 12 times. He's not a human, he's a TimeLord - a race who mastered the power of time travel thousands of years ago and "observe" the rest of the universe. The Doctor's a renegade, essentially, because he goes around getting involved, which is against TimeLord law.

This carried on for 26 years, through seven Doctors. Then the show was cancelled, despite still getting pretty good audience figures.

The show was kept alive in the minds of the fans - books carried on the story, and in 1996, it returned to TV screens with a new - 8th - Doctor. But it wasn't popular enough in the States to turn from a pilot to a series. But again, the fans kept it alive - there was a new Doctor, so there could be more books, and now they released audio-stories to keep the story going.

Then came the new version. In 2005, it came back properly - a full series, with some great actors, and one of Britain's best TV writers, Russel T Davies, at the helm. This is what you're watching now - they gave it the money to really compete in the modern sci-fi world, and wrote it some beautiful ingenious stories.

The 9th Doctor met up with Rose (the blonde-haired girl), and they went on a new series of adventures. In this series, the Doctor's home planet, Gallifrey, and all the other TimeLords, are dead - having been involved in a great war with a race called the Daleks (if you haven't encountered them yet, I won't spoil them for you). So he's utterly alone, and then he meets Rose. They fall in love over the course of one season. Then - Spoiler alert - he dies - and regenerates into the 10th Doctor (David Tennant). The 10th Doctor is the one in Fear Her. At the end of the 10th Doctor's first season, he and Rose get permanently separated - I'm not going to tell you whether she dies or not.
He has to go on, living and breathing and making a difference, and in his second season, he finds another companion, though he's not ready to commit himself emotionally to anyone else after Rose. He also finds a devastating blast from his own personal past, that builds to a tremendous season finale. Again, I won't spoil it for you by telling you whether David Tennant's Doctor survives. But Season 4 is being produced as we speak...

I cant say much more than the guys here have said but its a great show, keep watching :)
