In the Sopranos, why do the 'hitters' always seem to make a point of dro!

Question: Is it a ritualistic thing? Do hired killers do it in real life? Aren't there fingerprint issues?

you wipe the weapon of finger prints and drop it on the ground and leave as quickly as possible.

believe it or not most criminals are caught with their gun in hand, on their person, or in their car, bag, house.

even if you were caught at the crime scene, standing near a gun on the ground, it would be difficult to prove you did it.

the only real evidence then is gunpowder residue on your clothes and hands.

but you and you friends could have been to the shooting range earlier that day. have witnesses.

It's a TV show....and I highly doubt that REAL hired killers, would leave stuff behind. I really wouldn't want to find out

I agree with Brad456. People instinctually want to hide the evidence. But if your fingerprints aren't on the gun, there's really no way to trace it to you. If you have a gun that was used in a crime and they find it, they can tell it was the same gun even if you take such precautions as to file the serial number off of it. Each gun puts a unique pattern on any bullet shot from it, so the best thing to do is leave the gun with no way to trace it back to you instead of keeping it with a way to trace it back to the crime.
