Question: I was just wondering.....because at the end of the sow they only boast of the winner receiving a "mirror" ball trophy and bragging rights. So are these stars going through all of this for nothing? And if they are getting paid...how much?

The Stars get paid $ 125,000 for the first 2 episodes and then $20,000 for each week thereafter . They also get an addition $50,000 bonus if they make it to week nine of the competition.
So it works out to a maximum of $ 245,000 after it is all said and done which is not all that much considering how much the ABC and the Advertisers make off the show.

I think that they get paid a minor fee to participate. But there is no "grand prize" except that trophy.
Here is a lesson in life... Nothing is free. All reality stars get paid... if not in cash... they will get paid through other means. I would never dedicate over 4 months of my life without some sort of compensation.
Yes, they get paid. And they get a lot of publicity and it gives some of their careers a jump start. So whether or not they win the trophy, they're all getting exposure for more possible job opportunities, and a paycheck every week they're on.
The prize, my dear, is that the "stars" that have been forgotten for years are finally in the limelight again - regardless of how lame.
Im sure they get something, but don't know for sure. The biggest thing is they get in the spotlight again and that often leads to new job opportunities. Since mario lopez was on dancing with the stars he is EVERYWHERE. Hosting miss america pagents, on extra or one of those shows, he has been doing a lot of things. Others have been too especially getting gigs on broadway now that they know how to dance.
