Dont you just hate it?!

Question: when people say about tv or films ' well, if you dont like it, dont watch it'
Am I the only one here without 6th sense? If I knew what was going to be shown maybe I wouldnt watch or encourage my children to watch but as a mere mortal I dont know if I like it or approve until Ive actually seen something.
It really winds me up.

you must understand that sex and violence is the standard for most american t.v. and movies. as a rule of thumb for me: the more the hype (critics acclaim...!!!), the worse the show unless someone i know has seen it before me and lets me know. sci-fi/fantacy are generally very good to ok(violence maybe) but most of the so called "dramas" basically suck. comedy/sit-coms are basically one dumb put down remark after another and not really funny (people wonder why the kids are so foul mouthed these days) I watch PBS alot.

Our question is how your identifies the mine, but know of a very cool site that can help you http://www.bobool.com always hope to helping cf

Yes

Well if you like it you watch it.

I totally agree. That makes no sense. Channel surfing is dangerous with kids in the room!

don't agree. Sometimes people just know it ain't there thing.

snap

i guess its when people whinge about how crap something is but then continue to watch it! now thats just silly!

i think the point of this phrase is that once you have started to watch it, if its unsuitable there is an off button on the tv!

I agree, it is an idiotic answer. It also stops reasonable debate on anything.

get the weekly schedule -- with synopsis... then you'd know what to expect.

well if you watch the show then talk crap about it then its : if you dont like it dont watch it
so the reason ppl say that is b/c someone is complaining about a show
so ethier stop complaining or dont watch it cause others dont care

I think th point is if you watch a certain amount of the movie or show and don't like it, then just turn it off.

Try this on for size. Don't watch the boob tube. What!?!?! That's blasphemy! That's insane! Not watching TV? What else is there to do? You might disentigrate into an amorphous mass of boredom. What will happen to your kids if they aren't rotting their brains in front of the TV 7 hrs a day???? Ooooooh nooooo.

I don't watch TV, nor does anyone else in my house. It isn't a rule mind you, we just have other things to do. Try it, you might find that there is more to life than bickering about soap operas or what Paris Hilton is doing on the latest reality TV show.

This is just one of those situations where you have to make up your own mind about what to watch, others opinions are owned by them....This is what I do, we all interpret things differently.

Obviously you don't know what it's going to be like but certainly when I use that phrase it's directed to those people who say things like "I watched it for 90 mins and there were 47 swear words" or "there were 7 scenes of nudity".Surely after the first instance of something that you don't find suitable that is the time to stop watching.

I know someone like that and want to punch them in the face!!!

Sorry, but as soon as I put a programme, film etc on the box I know after a few minutes if I`m going to like it or not

Why not watch it after recording it first and then only let your children watch if you approve?

On the down side all of your childs friends will be watching and your kids are going to feel excluded from conversations as a result.

The worst that can happen is your children become withdrawn and become targets for bullies.

Agree.
Also when there's a big hype over something and you end up being disappointed. For example, I couldn't wait to see "Knocked Up" because of all the great stuff I heard about it. Well I got it on video the other day and well.....zzzzzzzzzz
Snooze Town! I thought I was gonna die laughing like I did with the "40-year-old Virgin" and didn't. I laughed once or twice and I couldn't wait for it to end. But hey, how else would I have known, right?
