Other than Dannii Minogue those judges are very very successful people in the music business who have made their tens and tens of millions by shaping the careers of dozens of artists, the singers on the other hand are not at all experienced so maybe they are right to choose the songs for them. I think that the worst choices in song have been made by Dannii anyway.

They do let them choose their own songs, ie daniel wanted to sing that song on his first week and louis let him.
i sooooo agree they cant do any worse then them lot don't you think they know the songs they like to sing but that would also show there flaws and simon would never do that do you remember a couple of years ago someone argued the point that they wanted to sing a certain song in louis gang he just walked away i think it was the sisters and he washed his hands off them louis,simon,sharon,or danni don't like being told what to do
that would be a good idea but it proberly would not happen cos they like to pick the worst songs to see what there like see wht there truly like

I agree with what Sean says Bex. But even judges with experience get it wrong. Danni Minogue is hopeless and she should never ever have been allowed on the panel of judges. Have you noticed that her opinion usually differs from the other 3? - inexperience springs to mind. The whole idea of a fourth category and a fourth judge together with the lower age limit has been an absolute disaster. That together with the fact that the standard of contestants this year is low has made a farce of the whole thing. Bearing all this in mind I don't think them choosing their own songs would have made one iota of difference!
The contestants trust the judges to make the right choice....but from what I have seen...well I think I could do a better job than Miss Minogue!
If they are going to get anywhere in the music field they must be able to sing most things so they have to make any song 'their own'.-can't wait to see Rhydian doing a rendering of 'Slim Shady' !
I agree to a point. But sometimes it takes an uninvolved bystander to see the mistakes easier than those taking part. Just because a singer likes a particular song it doesn't always follow that they themselves can do it justice.
Take last week for example, Rhydian got a really stupid song for his voice but did his best & made it almost work. This week he was brilliant, just as he was in the week when he sang the song from Phantom of the opera.
They have to start choosing songs for the type of voice they have. There is no point singing a some that needs to be belted out if you have a voice like a mouse.
I think they have a list of songs and can take part in it however the judges have final say and they try and make a selection of variety for show however what they do not do is think of artist singing them!
Andy has had wrong songs every week he needed fast rock not slow songs for his voice as he can sing but with the right song! Any good music teacher will tell you that laying down your diaphram is not going to work properly or sittin unless you are very trained she got Andy on floor, sitting and slumped over tables so he did not stand a chance.
Bev good but not as good last night why made her sit for most of song and watch today sings better standing!!!!
I would give them five each to pick from but now they have one list and fight the good fight to who gets best!

they get dumped with a song 24hrs before the show no wonder some screw it up.

Well DM's choices have been horrendous throughout........she got it right with Rhyd's last night, but once is not good enough. She seems to choose what she likes rather than what is suitable for the contestants........criminal when you think she had the better category.....feck knows what Rhyds is going to sing next week.........

yeah i have noticed that most of the songs have been a bit naff lately, the only one who's actually nailed his songs is Riddles...(Rhydion) i can never spell his name...Nikki was given a bad choice of song las night, the girls did well though and Bev shoulda got an r&b song or something with a bit of soul in it, i think she should do Misty Blue by Dorothy Moore, she'd do that really well and poor Leon looked like he'd peed himself, lol...what are the judges thinking...?
The problem is...They have to be able to sing different songs to show if they have any true potential.
I suppose if they chose their own songs, they may only stick to one particular style. They try to make it varied to "stretch" them, rather than allow them to stay within their comfort zone.
Having said that. last year, no matter the song, Ray did it in his own style - swing!!!!!
