Are there any good shows worth watching anymore?!

Question: I can't seem to find anything on t.v. worth watching anymore. I remember the shows of the late 70's and 80's and the storylines that they had and compare them to the shows of the 90's and today and can't really think of anything that compares (long run basis). I enjoyed MASH, Macguiver, A-team, etc but didn't really get into Sinfield, Friends, etc... Am I the only one that feels this way or are there any good shows anymore?

You're not alone, Charia; I feel the same. The main reason I have cable is for my son and I believe I enjoy shows like Sesame Street, Wonder Pets, and the Wiggles more than he does sometimes !!!

When I do tune in to shows, I look for T.V. Land programs. The shows back then were more spontaneous, off the cuff. Today they are trying to pack politically correct messages and subtle preaching in the format. It makes me tired !!

Try Hollyoaks.

...Personally, I enjoy Top Gear.

Sure is. The simpsons lol :)

No you're not alone. Sinfield, Friends etc were just updated versions of shows like "I love Lucy" and other sit coms of the late 50s and 60s. It was like the writers couldn't come up with anything new so they slapped some new paint on old plots, changed up some of the dialog and called them "original". Most of the time my television is in the "off" posisiton unless I come across a really "juicy" horror flick.

House MD

yeah some tv shows today suck like lost, i don't know what the heck its about since you like old tv shows maybe you can suscribe to bbc tv channel they really have some good shows and funny ones or you could get the comedy series black adder or the thin blue line which are comedies. personally i find bbc comedies easier to understand then american tv series yeah todays tv shows are getting worse and worse l

hmm .. im into crimey shows like csi, cold case, crimal intent, ncis ect. ect. what about that 70's show. or third rock from the sun .
they arent exactlly on now but you can buy box sets of old shows you liked and foxtel has re-run channels ??

Not too many but I enjoy Heroes and Jericho. Especially Heroes!! There has never been anything quite like it and i actually look forward to it every week.

There are good shows like Heroes, Prison Break, Battlestar Galactica, Ugly Betty, etc.

You should give them a shot like a whole season or 2...

The Simpsons!!! I'd recommend Weeds and Dexter on Showtimes, The Wire on HBO. Tina Fey's 30 Rock on network television, NBC. And the critically acclaimed and most watched, I Love New York 2 on VH1....

I loved Seinfeld and own it on DVD. I still get a laugh out of it.
My favorite show at the moment would have to be Family Guy and Desperate Housewives. I can do without all those "Reality Shows" though. You're right, Macguiver was pretty good. He could probably save us from some of these awful shows.
Good luck finding something to entertain you... Inga

Family Guy & American Dad & Futurama.

Try getting South Park.

By the way, your question is a little sweeping. I like 90's shows (e.g. Earth Final Conflict).

Dexter - on Showtime. The only show that I make sure and watch every week.

Bones, Supernatural, Numb3rs and Criminal Minds are all pretty good.

Actually I think there's more decent TV than there is good music these days- here's what I've been watching recently

Battlestar Galactica
House
Jekyll
Life on Mars
Doctor Who

I currently really like Heroes and Doctor Who. Primeval wasn't bad but I don't think it's comign back until next year. I also occasionally watch Waterloo Road, Hollyoaks and Eastenders - not too bad if there's nothing else on!

i'm with you. thank syndication
for reruns.

Try the office(american version) its really funny once you start ot to know the characters.24,the unit, family guy.

I love Scrubs, Bad Girls, Brothers and sisters, Hero's, Grey's anatomy, 24(def my favourite), Boston Legal, Nip/tuck, House, Neighbours, Home and away, Cold Case, the office...

Im sure there's something there that you must like???
