I dont know. "All My Children" has been my favorite, although for now, I am not enjoying the plot lines.. I miss the old "Babe", too. and the old "Greenlee", too..

I don't know . Probably because it have been for years.
i've watched y&r since i was a kid on summer vacation from school. i've also dabbled in passions in college and days of our lives. i always come back to y&r. of every soap i've seen, it's the most realistic, the characters and plots aren't cheesy, and the production value is pretty high compared to other soaps.
passions and days have both featured unrealistic story lines about demonic possession, two cases of evil twins, hurricanes, blizzards, and earthquakes (i don't know of anywhere on earth that is subject to all of these climate issues). numerous people coming back from the dead over and over again and numerous bad guys miraculously escaping from prison.
on y&r, no one is possessed by demons, bringing wooden dolls to life, or casting spells on each other. so it's much easier to identify with the characters and their struggles.
What's your definition of "popular?"
i don't know but it's the only one I watch. I use to watch them all day now i'm down to just Y&R .
who knows. I don't get how any CBS shows are number 1 in ratings.
The Young and the Restless is the most popular soap opera because it is the BEST soap opera and has the most viewers. You should watch it for yourself. You will be addicted in no time. Believe me, I know. I have been watching this show for over 20 years now. And like someone else already said, the story lines are a lot more realistic than other soap story lines. It is rather funny that she mentioned Marlena's possession by the devil from Days of Our Lives. I used to watch that show up with my mother up until then. When they started that story line we stopped watching the show completely. That was rather retarded. Again, just watch it for yourself. You'll see why Y&R is number one.
it is because you can stop watching for a year or more then go back & watch & get brought up to date with recap sequences
i quit working a few years back & hadn't seen it for over a year
started watching it again & right back into the swing of things.
prolly cuz its been on since the dinosaur age.
It maintains some dignity and class. The actors actually communicate-and not forever jumping each others bones! I love it.
