How can I sell the funny conversations that come to my mind which can be used in!

Question: Hi
Ok, here is precisely how you do it:

Firstly, you have to identify comedy shows that you think share your sense of humour. Next you have to start writing your 'funny conversations' down. It sounds like you are writing 'sketches' in your head - these need to be written down.

Next you have to take note of THE PRODUCTION COMPANY that makes the programmes you like. As the credits roll at the end of the TV program you will see a name of a company and that will be the company that makes the program.

Then you need to write a really, really short letter to them - something like this:

Dear Sir/Madam
I enjoy your program... 'whatever the program's called'.... and I wondered whether you ever buy sketches from other comedy writers?. I am a comedy writer and I have attached two example sketches for you to look at. If you feel my writing could be suitable for this or any other programs you make you can contact me on (put your address and telephone number here)

Thank you in advance for your consideration
Yours etc etc

The send the letter, with two sketches (on the sketches themselves always type your details at the bottom so that if they become detached from your letter, the company can still reach you)

And remember - be persistent. Don't give up on the first hurdle - you might not receive a reply or you might receive a rejection note - don't give up!! Many of the best comedy writers in the world started off with loads of rejections before their first success, but once you have a foot through the door it will get easier for you. My advice is to set a timeframe - say, two years - tell yourself you will send sketches to production companies for 2 years at least and if you have no success then perhaps this industry isn't for you after all!

The best of luck to you and I hope that was helpful.

See you
