Are you for or against the TV writers strike?!

Question: I am all for it because hopefully more and more Americans will wake up and realize that watching TV is a huge waste of time. It will hopefully make more Americans get off their lazy behinds and go do something productive with their lives instead of wasting it with those crappy TV shows. What about you?

FOR...for many of the same reasons that you state. But also, perhaps the janitorial staff at the networks could write better scripts.

to the extent that it is a profession, then i'd support anything that'll give them cost of living adjustment (COLA)

i am for any employee that stand up against the big companies of injustice

I do sympathize with the working man or woman, but I agree that we would be better off without a lot of the junk they call entertainment

Greed -- for writing unimportant words.

I am against Tv writers strike becouse i realy don't like them

i think they make or break a show and are entitled to a greater share of the profits

Plenty of good of writers out there, strikes can sometimes back fire.

i am against it because they are not presenting a solution just a problem. i am also against it because they use the chant "on strike shut it down"
how lame is that? its boring and doesn't rhyme. do the deserve more money if they cant come up with something better than that, for the one time they get to be on live tv themselves?

Writers make big money. You telling me Jay Leno can't come up with 3 or 4 lousy jokes to keep his show on the air? I hope the strike lasts for a year. No. Two years.

i'm not for or against. i am not a heavy tv watcher. there's not much on the tube these days worth watching. if they abolished tv i guess i would just as content. OH WELL

I'm against organized strikes in any industry. I tend to believe that unions have outlived their usefulness. They were necessary historically in order to command safe and reasonable work environments. If you don't think you're being paid fairly for a job - don't take the job. Unions have far too much power in this country - shouldn't be able to essentially hold their employer hostage. Union shops should be outlawed.

I am surprised that there are writers - between the reality shows and the shows they buy off of foreign shows, very little is written now. Also the quality is poor. But we as watchers have allowed this - we will sit and watch any piece of garbage that comes on. I think we need a "watchers strike" - we should turn off the TV on any hour where there is not something we are excited about watching. Once viewership gets low enough, the advertisers will be upset and the networks will need to apply themselves to better programming.
The writers are striking to get some income from the DVD and streaming of their work. If the network finds it profitable to do these things, then that profit needs to be shared equitably, end of story. If they think the profit is too little to share, they should not be doing the DVD and streaming in the first place, eh?

yes and no. I respect that when a sitcom goes to dvd and reruns the writers do not get there cut. on the other hand i love my favorite shows and I'm pissed.

For and maybe we'll get better writers

yes and no I think they deserve more money but going on a strike is ridiculous!! They are just making problems and no giving any solutions!

I think when the script writers asked for a raise they should have gave it to them but if they said no there is no reason for them to go on strike. My answer is for and against.

I'm against the writers strike. All the writers want is more money. Look at this. It costs like fifty cents to make a DVD. They already charge 30 bucks for them, and the writers want to charge MORE? They also want to charge people for watching episodes online. That's crap. Hollywood people are so stuck up...
