What does 'that's what she said' in The Office mean or imply?!

Question: Everytime Micheal says it, I don't get it.

Answers: Everytime Micheal says it, I don't get it.

Seriously?

"That's what she said" is always preceded by a comment that could be construed as sexually explicit.

For example:

"That's really hard."

"That's what she said."

It implies you shouldn't be watching The Office.

Of course you should be watching the office!!!

It always leaves me satisfied and smiling...thats what she said

Sorry, but you must be totally socially isolated. Who doesn't get what Michael means when he says that.

It was red and swollen. "That's what she said." Comic genius writing.

you proabably dont get it because you are younger than 10, maybe one day you will get it......that's what she said

NBC started that joke to get people back to their network. The joke has appeared on all Thursday night comedies. 'The Office' is the only show to have kept it going. It started as a way to say things that are inappropriate and making them like go away and make what you just said before it not seem so bad.

For instance on 'The Office': "Wow that's hard...Thats what she said"

Its how Michael rationalizes his behavior.

I love the office, it makes me feel warm and fuzzy, thats what she said....
