Why aren't the majority of people sick and tired of reality TV shows yet?!
Question: TV history has had genres come and go out of style due to audience being bored with them: the family sitcom, game shows, etc...
But for some reason Reality TV endures despite rehashing the same or similar ideas over and over again. Why hasn't the American audience gotten bored of Reality TV show by now? It's been over 10 years since we were bombarded by them and it seems they are still picking up steam.

For the most part they never interested me.............There are only 2 I like and I'm not even sure if they're considered "reality" shows..........I love Dancing With The Stars and America's Got Talent........I honestly don't believe those reality shows are all that real........People seem to cling to them because they want to believe in the supposed reality or now it's just become a force of habit..........Over the past couple of years the quality of programming in prime time has changed and I'm afraid it's not for the better........Too many shows emulate other shows.........If one channel has a "doctor" show then the others follow suit, etc........The sitcoms have lost a lot of their real comedy to me and have become boring..........I used to love sitcoms but I'm turned off by them now so I turn them off..........Eventually these "reality" shows will start to ebb down..........I've read that the ratings are falling on several of them so hopefully we'll start to see them disappear................GOOD QUESTION!!!!..........CAT
i know! they all build off eachother. one show does good on a channel so their competitors have to have the same basic thing but just a little different. it's dumb. the only reason there are so many is because that way they don't have to pay writers or actors. and if the writers strike goes on for a long time, i wouldn't be surprised if there were even more reality tv shows.
i know I AM tired of them.
Because even the true trash reality shows (Tila Tequila, Rock of Love, Surreal Life, I Love New York, etc) are hideously entertaining. Noone is writing anything new. Everyone is bored. People draw entertainment from other ppl embarrassing themselves on TV. Some crap that happens on those shows, you just can't write! These ppl are just not normal!
because reality tv unlike those other show is always changing depending on the personalities that are on the show, you can tell alot of those show are probably scripted, but people enjoy seeing people just like themselves going through real events, unlike actors who are paid to act
OH yes!!! Saturday night on the television is just appalling. They just keep dragging these programmes out, just when you think they've given up on them, up they pop again. Big Brother is by far the worst. All the people who appear on that must have been grown in a dish, in a lab.I am with you, absolutely sick of them.
Well, look at TV, period, at least commercial television. CBS has a CSI for every taste, while NBC overflows with Law and Order. Imagination seems to have taken a permanent hiatus. I haven't had cable (or satellite) for over 5 years now and I honestly don't miss it. I buy DVDs of shows I do like, and what "new" shows I like I can tape at my mother's (right now that consists of Supernatural) as she's hooked on TVLand and doesn't want to miss her ball team's games. As for the appeal of "Reality" (snort) shows, I think people want to watch others make fools of themselves. As for REALITY??? That's laughable. By a show of hands, how many people have been pressured into eating slugs? They're mislabeled, it should be UNreality shows.
