Most reality shows are scripted, they aren't what they claim to be. The first casualty of the strike would be late-night talk shows, which are dependent on current events to fuel monologues and other entertainment.

Daytime TV, including live talk shows such as "The View" and soap operas, which typically tape about a week's worth of shows in advance, would be next to feel the impact.

The strike will not immediately impact production of movies or prime-time TV programs. Most studios have stockpiled dozens of movie scripts, and TV shows have enough scripts or completed shows in hand to last until early next year.

It should not hurt reality shows that are already off and running.

Oh that poor man and woman out there in the wilds all on their own. It is just horrible.
Hey, what about the cameraman, the support staff etc?

OH YEAH

Reality is a state of mind. It ain't real, I don't watch that silliness, so I don't mind.

If anything, it should produce more reality shows. Since other shows won't have material, the easiest way to fill air-time without writers is a reality show.

i don't think it will really effect the reality shows that may be one of the only thing you may be able to see because they are unscripted.

they dont that is why the news keeps saying that if the strike isnt solved then all we are going to get is a bunch of reality tv!

The strike won't hurt the reality shows. You are absolutely right , "reality " is as fake as you can get. They just say that so they don't have to pay people what they should. The studios are skirting the labor laws by claiming that there are no "real" writers on their "reality" shows. But they do have writers, and those writers want the job protections that they should have by law. The same as teachers and anyone else who has a union and wants to work normal hours.

The studios are basically liars and thieves.

the producer an director tell the people on real shows what to do an say,an i was told that if there name is on the screen ,they get paid

Reality show do have writers, but they aren't in the union so they will be in production during the strike. Unfortunately, somebody has to come up with all those wacky plot twists that keep a heck of a lot of people coming back for more. I'd rather watch the war between the black versus white on the "snow channels" myself. But, America, we have done this to ourselves. Enjoy.

I can't imagine anything put on screen that wouldn't have some sort of writing associated with it - if for nothing else, for narration, etc.

One writer involved in the strike has assured his readers that any strike that lasts less than eight months is going to be unsuccessful...
