My television is fading and sometimes switching itself off , Is this the tube?!
Question: modern tubes last AGES and are very reliable
there could be a number of reasons for your fault, most likely related to the power supply area.
You may find out if this is a common fault... and how to remedy it... by putting the make and model into google along with 'Common Faults' 'fault finding' or similar
If that doesnt produce anything, then a qualified TV engineer can tell you for sure - after doing a bit of fault finding.

May not necessary be a problem with the picture tube,
The 6.3V filament supply could also be faulty because of some leaking capacitor. You should call the service engineer and get it checked
Sounds like it's on it's way out...Get a new one quick.
