Why is Dog the bounty hunter getting criticized for using the same word i hear i!

Question: Ok, so a lot of movies and music use this suppository horrible word that if pronounced properly is the color black in a few other languages. What I want to comprehend is why people get so offended by it if someone other than a black rapper or actor uses it. Really if it was that horrible then it shouldn't be used by anyone. I've heard and watched plenty of hippocrates over the years use that word countless times. Why on earth is it just fine for an african american to be so free with this but how dare anyone else use it.

I grew up in GA and my entire extended family is racist. When I say that, I mean it. I grew up hearing that word used in pretty much every sentence and never thought anything of it. I too thought that it was possible to use that word without being a "racist" and without meaning it "that way" and didn't, necessarily, think that it made you ignorant to use it because my family is pretty well off and everyone is educated in terms of degrees hanging on the walls. Believe me, I understand where you're coming from and I undertstand the, ostensible, double standard that exists.

That being said, hearing that words coming out of a black mouth is completely different than hearing it come out of a white mouth. We can deny it all that we want but we don't think much of it when a black person uses the "n" word. We may think that that person is ignorant, we may think that they're low class but that's the extent of our judgment. We do not assign any particular value to the term. When a white person uses that word I always think one of two things: that person is racist or that person is trying way too hard to be "down" and is unpardonably ignorant as a result. The fact of the matter is, many blacks (not all or even close to most for that matter) grow up saying that word and view it the way that you or I would view "dude" when a black person says it. White kids, generally speaking, do not grow up that way unless they are from a racist family. That's the fact of the matter. If you're a white person in America, chances are you don't know that many black people and when you say that "n" word you are not attributing the same value or lack thereof to it. If you're not a racist and you're attempting to use that word it's because you're trying to be something that you're not. You're trying to emulate the rapper that you saw on MTV and you're trying to be cool. Otherwise, there is absolutely no reason under the sun that you could possibly have for using that word other than to prove a point. If you're trying to prove a point, you're hypocrite because I can think of no less than a dozen so-called double standards off of the top of my head without giving it any real thought that exist in this society that are rarely, if ever mentioned, on this board or in life because they are just accepted for what they are. Our tenacity as a race in proviing this point really speaks to the where we are in a society. It's not about slavery though that's where it all started. It's about institutionalized racism that existed in this country until one generation ago. It's about the meaning that has always been attributed to that word outside of the black community despite the fact that blacks using that word when speaking to each other is nothing new - it's just been brought to our [whites] attention through increased integration and cross over in recent years. Trying to prove a point shows your insensitivity and lack of historical perspective. Harping on this, apparent, double standard while giving scant attention to other double standards seemingly proves the point that blacks are trying to make that it is all about race because why would you want to say this word so badly that you would devote so much time to it when you know its history in this country? Contrary to popular belief, it's not about the color of your skin when it comes to the use of the "n" word. I work with inner-city kids and I'm frequently in inner-city neighborhoods. I have white kids in my class that use that word all the time and no one cares because they live right down the street from the black kids in the class and the black kids know who they are and know that they're not being offensive, they're products of their environment and they're being true to themselves in its use. I know Latino kids who do the same and they are accepted the same way. There's a white guy in his 20's I'm guessing, who I see all the time in the neighborhood and he uses the word with absolutely no problem because he's obviously "one of them," meaning he's from the same place, has done the same things and was socialized in the same manner. I don't take this an invivitation to use the word myself, however, because I'm not "one of them" and I understand that. I have a black friend who volunteers in the same program and she almost got into a physical altercation for using that word and she's black. The problem? She's not one of them either and she tried to step outside of herself and be "down" for a minute. They didn't like that. I don't understand why you and others can't understand that. It's not some huge conspiracy to get back at the white man for what he's done. It's about being true to yourself and not mocking other people by trying to talk like them because you find it amusing and it's "in" for the moment.

you on ice again bra?

because he's supposed to know better i mean, look how sophisticated his job is. (sarcasm)

bingo..man u hit it on the nail...it is a power thing..God help this nation !! no i am not a raciest....my grandchildren are mixed race and i am trying to teach them better...it is a plot to payback for what the white man has"DONE" TO Them

Thats how the world is.

wats the word

It's called "double standards". Rev. Sharpton is one of THE biggest offenders on the planet, yet he never fails to climb up on his "righteous indignation" platform.

Just because someone else does it doesnt mean its ok for you to do. Thats all there is to it.

I wrote a blog about this a couple days ago.

A&E are cowards, plain and simple. Not only is the word in question used by artists they regularly feature on their Biography channel, but the word was not said on their network or in his show. It was said during a private phone conversation, which was illegally recorded then sold to a rag magazine by his vindictive son.

it's ok if a person of color said the word, but you better not?

Because racism is very skewed in our culture. I go to a very divided school, and all the time I hear snide 'white girl' comments and open criticism of whites and how horrible they are. I once said I like the white iPods better than the black iPods and a black kid said that I was being horribly racist and that he like black iPods. First of all, I was just saying that becuase I liked how the stupid electronic device looked, and becuase iSkins looked better on it. Also, wasn't he just as racist? evidently not. If one of us white kids ever says that we hate blacks or love being whites, we are horrible supremacists and we are extremely racist. yet black kids say that all the time. Very hypocritical and uneven.

America is as hypocritical as they come.

Too many sensitive people out there who look for any excuse to cling to power. These are the people running around crying racism all the time for any perceived problem. Sad, very sad. I am not condoning "Dog" nor do I care to watch his how but this kind of action should stop.

The big bad N word means black in what language? Try using Kafir. It is the N word in South African. Just not proper for us white people to call them that. But they can call us every word in the book and we have to accept it.

Really stupid calling people African American especially since most African Americans were born here.duh. American or not. Well I guess I should be called GermanIrishEnglishFrench American since my relatives came from those places back in the late 1500's.

Also it is like people are not allowed to say anything derogatory about any other religion in the world unless you are bashing christianity then it is ok.

Basically if you listened to Dog on the phone you heard he was using it as a derogatory meaning. A black person using the N word can mean it a couple different ways, a greeting, or a derogatory word.

Anyway who cares what colour is what, right. Never mattered to me what colour a person is..........

We are tending more and more in America to a homogenized, pastuerized, vanilla, offend no one society. It is a socialistic agenda to govern what we think, feel, say and do, even if the privacy of our homes and phone conversations. Personally, I could care less what Dog TBH thinks about black people. It is socially irrelevant. This was a private conversation where he was entitled, I believe, to express himself. I think this is social censorhip of private minds in the worst way.

The son, however is a real jerk in my estimation. How could you sell out your own father for $15k??? He is the real bad guy in this for taking a private conversation and putting it in a public arena for spectacle, spite and profit. Just remember junior, what comes around goes around!

I agree with you...i've been saying for a long time that no one should be able to use the stupid word.... I also don't like that people think it's okay to use it with the 'a' at the end and not the 'er'.

I've also noticed that a black person can call a white person a cra**** which in my opinion is equally offensive but no one does anything...

You might consider that blacks were slaves for a time. Not only that, but they were the slaves, and whites were the masters...

Back where im from (Peru) the word "negro" is used like...pop corn. You hear it all the time, but back home, blacks were never our slaves; hell, if anything we both (brown people-the natives- and black people) were slaves to the spaniards...

SO thats my lil bit of help....i actually dislike the way white politicians always say "african americans" because they are black thus there's nothing wrong with calling them blacks. just like whites are white and there's nothing wrong in calling them whites...i mean, u see a group of fair-skinned ppl and first thing u think is there's a bunch of white ppl!

totally agree with you they can say and do whatever they want and get away with it but if we say it we're racist free speech isnt just for them

aruel don't pull that bs about them being slaves that was hundreds of years ago it shouldnt count anymore

It's wrong no matter who says it.

Just like I have never watched anything with Damon Wayans in it after that BET Awards commercial where he says

"Everything tastes better on a cracker" after telling the white girl to get some cheese.

I didn't see that pulled off the air. He should have faced consequences as well. And so should BET. Any network that promotes racism of any kind should be fined.

And you tell me when you were a slave. You weren't so you don't get that out. Yes, black people where treated horribly.

Excuses don't fly anymore. Man up and drop that ignorant racism if you want people to stop being racist themselves.

I know just as many black racists as white racists.

That word is waaaaaaaaaaay beyond just offending other people.. I don't think most people ARE offended by it..

It's a government thing.. They probably should make it illegal if it's going to cause this much ruckus.

I couldn't have said it better myself..................I say if the public is gonna condemn him, then put him on the sidelines but let the show continue for the rest of the crew, they all have families to take care of............What gets me is , that the entire Tucker Chapman was in prison, his dad helped him & supported him after he finally got out. Now I ask you all, just what kinda son is that ? That's my opinion , Take care everyone, Debbie

He was convicted in the murder of a black man back in 1977. He should be more sensitive to that group of people. esp since he claims to have changed.

Most of you answering are idoits . . . . the "N" word is always offensive whether it's in song or not, whether it's a caucasion or an african american saying it . . . it's just a fowl, degrading word like c-u-n-t

The word should be obliterated and not used by anyone. Hopefully we're moving closer in that direction.

Obviously, "Dog" was used to throwing the word around pretty freely until his son started dating an African American woman. There's more to this story, and I'd like to hear the girlfriend's side of the story.

People like you make me laugh, just admit it you're itching to say the word. Well, if you want to say it so bad say it but accept the consequences. You and I know very well that the way Dog used it and the way African Americans generally use it is quite different.

If I apply your twisted logic then because whites "owned" the "n" word without consequences for hundreds of years, African American's then should now "own" the word and decide who gets to use it for 2 or 3 hundred years without catching any grief from white people. After that no one uses the word ever again...even steven, k?

because they are all stupid ******* that only care a/b their race and wont let the white ppl rule like they should...b/c the US Constitution says to let the blacks be free if they are domesticated and they arent so i dont know why theyre free...Dog was having a personal conversation on the phone with his son so it never should have been put out there like that
