I have never once laughed at one of Jerry Seinfeld's jokes. Am I crazy?!

Question: I love comedy. I listen and watch all sorts of standup comedy. I like improvisational comedy like Whose line is it anyway. I enjoy dark humor. I like slapstick. I like irony. I like ludicrous "stream of thought" comedy like Monty Python. I like Canadian humor. I love most sitcoms. I loved every other character on Seinfeld.

I never, once, laughed at anything Jerry Seinfeld ever did. I can't explain it. I don't hate the guy, it just completely escapes me why people laugh at what he does. I'm trying desperately to find out.

I always thought Jerry was the straight man and all the other characters were the funny ones. That makes sense to me. But apparently people think Jerry is funny.

I don't get it, I seriously don't.

Is there anyone else out there that understands what I mean?

If you find Jerry Seinfeld funny, you get 10 points if you can explain to me what the joke is. What is his angle? Why is he funny? Why is he not just a straight man?

Please help.

I don't think there's a straight answer to that question. Perhaps part of his charm is due to his naturality. Unlike other comedians, it doesn't look like he's playing a character. It's himself all the time, with his obsessions and eccentricities, with his cruel remarks about everyone and everything. In some way, he's similar to Woody Allen: some people love him and other hate him. It's a matter of 'take it or leave it'.

Also, what I personally find very amusing is his 'not politically correct' sense of humour. Whereas many other sitcoms tend to be more na?ve about certain topics such as 'love' or frequently have 'happy endings' (take, for example, "Friends"), Jerry has no sympathy for anyone and criticizes much of what happens around him. Again, some people like that and others find it tacky or simply boring.

Anyway, as a big fan of the sitcom Seinfeld, I agree that he wasn't the funniest (to me, nobody beats Elaine =P), although I think he's an excellent comedian and scriptwriter.

Sounds like you have trouble interpreting "dry humor"

His 'angle' is that his humour is found in the everyday.

And yes, you are entirely and absolutely crazy and in dire need of help! LOL

he is about as funny as poke in the eye so know what you are saying

I'm not a big fan of him either...never watched the show.

Jerry is a acquired taste of humor. he has a dry humor that is hard to get sometimes. however, know that there are several types of humor. Abbott and Costello were geniouses of their time, but now are considered out dated slapstick. Chris Rock is very vulgar and considered brilliant. Jerry is considered one of the best Dry humor comedians. but dont get too upset because you dont get him. you still could have a sense of humor, just find which kind it is and enjoy life.

You are not only crazy but also out of the mainstream. The last episode of his TV series had over 74 million viewers.

And if you didn't laugh at the episode when they had the "masturbation bet" and Crammer came in, slapped his money on the counter and said "I'm out", you definitely are not normal.

Cheers.

Don't feel bad, I never have laughed at his stuff either! I found him and the whole show annoying.

Jerry Seinfeld uses a different kind of comedy called 'dry humor,' which is a lot different.
He would make jokes about how odd it is, the thought, of getting into a vehicle, strapping yourself in so that you cannot move at all, and lock the doors to prevent you from escaping.
And, yes, for some reason, people find this humourous, but it isn't that funny to myself either, he pretty much just makes fun of things that you wouldn't normally think about.
No funny jokes, just a common sense that can point out odd things that others might find humorous for their own reasons.

I find his type of humor "amusing" but not "laugh out loud" funny.........yes, he uses every day events to bring about his humor........we can relate, therefore we see ourselves in this type of humor........we are therefore laughing at ourselves..kind of "getting a kick out of ourselves and what we go through ever day."

I get a kick out of George.........sometimes Elaine

One of my favs is Jim Carey...........he cracks me up! lol

He is the best comedian ever and i love his jokes ,but everyone has there own opinion

no..mainly because he's not funny.

He makes observations and tries really hard to make something funny come out of these, I really like it. Some people think too much about the joke and realize that it is just a stretched observation. It is an aquired taste, you needn't require it. The other characters on the show have a completely different way of being funny.

I don't think you're crazy. I don't find him funny either.

I'm with you, so I won't get the 10 points. I'm more of a Kids In the Hall girl, and I'm hard pressed to find much a difference between the two. I guess it's just that the Kids are so ludicrous and the drag doesn't hurt.

It sometimes seems that Jerry Seinfeld thinks he can just tag a laugh track on and it's automatically funny. I used to want to watch Seinfeld, but when I did, I found myself distracted easily and the next thing I knew, I missed the whole half hour. So I gave up and now it seems like the whole thing really was a waste of time. It feels bad to be left out of the loop, but Seinfeld really isn't funny and the Emperor has no clothes.

How many thumbs down do you think I'll get?

EDIT: I DO get the whole Soup Nazi thing, though, cuz if I were around them for any length of time, I'd ban 'em, too!
