Act or not, he actively promoted every offensive racist stereotype in the book for the whole of his career, and never gave a stuff that this offended people.
Just saying 'it's all an act, I really like Pakis,me!' doesn't excuse the evil lard-bag, and doesn't wipe away the offence caused.

It wasn't an act, as he himself admitted, shortly before his death.
well as some one that saw him both on stage and off would have to say that an awful lot of what he did rant about on stage seemed to be HIS real views on people and life.
Maybe that's why his shows finally fell out of favour.
