Anyone else watching Kid Nation? Thoughts?!

Question: I became intrigued when I saw a commercial for it because I am a teacher and I wanted to see what it was like and how children acted without adult supervision and guidance. I am surprised by some things and moved by others. I still cant believe how they have this show though- must be a lot of backround help that we dont see? Thoughts!?

The kids may not ask to go home every 3 days because they think.. yeah Im away from home I can win $20,000.00 If I go home then I do not win the money and also if they go home they will never make it to the end. They are curious. A kid did go home because he was just too sad there and missed the family.
If you watched the show then you will know that every episode offers the kids to go home but they usually choose not too most the time, it is proberly because of peer pressure but then it is proberly because for the most part they are having fun.

OH AND THE MONEY!
The children were picked because they were smart and outstanding compared to average children.
If you noticed that the pagent girl misbehaves but when the host is around she acts good. Also the camera men are around, and the kids are pretty smart enough to know that they are pretty much not going to interfear with them. Also their is a medical team in the background to take care of the children. I read somewhere that 2 of the children drank bleach or something like that because they didnt know what was in the container. Of course the medical team was there to take careof them.

Some parents after the show were happy with what their kids had to say and others were not happy with how the kids had to cook and clean for themselves. In the end they signed contracts and they should have known better...but I'm sure the money was alot more appealling.

Most the children are selected because they are bright, mature, and educated for their age. I'am moved at how they speak with each other and surprised by the way they realize what they are doing are wrong. It's interesting to see how they will react.

I thought it was a neat idea, but they really aren't in charge. Most of the hot topics are introduced by the producers.

"without adult supervision" - are you seriously joking? Children are incapable of reason and the entire social oder structure would undoubtedly fall into anarchy/confusion if there weren't "adults" (producers) watching somewhere.

It looks to me as thought there is supervision eer though we don't see it. That is ususally hoe tv works. Survivor has a medical team nearby id something happens and I'm sure it's even safer for kidnation. Also, if things were soooooo bad for kidnation, wouldn't the kids ask to go home every 3 days? I don;t they help, but I think there are plenty of observers that are there just in case.

I think television is a more dangerous addiction than heroin.

FP

I think it is gross and innapropriate. kids should not have to do that. even audlts shouldn't. Sure, im moved, but only to stop the freakin show.

Their parents shipped off their responsibilities to the TV station so they could get a vacation from the whining.
