I think some people thought it was scary at the time -- the idea of a computer defying a command given by a human. But no, I would not agree with that one. Jack Nicholson chopping his way through a bathroom door in "The Shining" and saying "Here's Johnny!" is scarier than that. Did that one make the list?
Their list was screwy anyway; all the top moments were gross, not scary. When you're putting crap like Hostel at # 1, you're pretty dumb.
2001 did have some very cosmically scary moments. But the horror in that film is all psychological. The moment they mention is when Hal 9000 goes wacko. Since then the theme of the berserk machine has become pretty commonplace but it had not been used mcuh before 2001 was made.
