In the final scenes of the last episode, we find out his real name is John.

Well when the girls originally met Mr. Big they never found out his name . He was an Investment Banker that worked on Wall Street so they named him Mr Big because of his Big Bucks and his Social Status in the Financial circles of New York.
Carrie did not find out his name until the Shows Finale . It was John. Mr Big was so much better.
