Eastenders is it dumbing down the Nation?!
Question: I know people who have become devotees of Eastenders, and since watching it they have intellectually changed, once they where astute, sharp,appreciated good things, well spoken,bright and generally free thinkers.
Since having been exposed to the lowest common denominator of broadcasting with depictions of people who cant speak properly, cant behave properly, are uneducated, voilent, have no visible means of income,spend most of the day in a pub, are adulterous,have little regard for law and order,are incapable of speaking only shouting and are fundementally undesirables, they have degenerated into inert,
brain dead, apathetic and lazy individuals.
Is this part of the BBCs (Brown Broadcasting Control) dumbing down policy?

its the most depressing program on tv, never watch it unless i feel like killing myself then i might start
how rubbish is that programme??i HATE it....being a true cockney my self,i can safely say that NO-ONE i know(myself included)speaks as dumbly as them or lives like they do.....yes i know they have to make a soap watchable by adding "drama"....but come on.....it is UTTER RUBBISH!!!!!!and i agree with your theory....i think it is dumbing down watchers....my other half likes to watch this drivel...and he is getting a bit of a durr brain!!!!lol.
totally agree with your comments . watch neighbours and you see how out of touch eastenders really is .the aussies can do a serious,comedy,informative soap and do it all in colour. eastenders is still stuck in the 80's

I think this goes quite a lot further than Eastenders and the Beeb.
See Coronation Street, Hollyoaks, Neighbours, Home and Away etc combined with a host of shows where people turn up and fix your life for free including supernanny, DIY SOS etcand various others where gardens are dug, pets are trained and even plastic surgery is performed.
On top of that you also have a horrific number programs showing division, be it social (wife swap), racial (big brother) or otherwise.
Television is just really, really bad for the soul. I try to spend my time playing music, painting and visiting galleries and gigs. if i really really want some easy entertainment i'll play video games as i really think they're less damaging than tv. especially puzzle based games
