With all these infomercials, why are we still broke and overweight?!

Question: Products/services offered in infomercials come in three categories: scams, immoral, and just stupid. What usually happens is all the weight loss/makeup stuff doesn't work, so it fills most of the "scam" category. Then there's the ones that advertise "get rich quick" schemes that, upon investigation, often involve illegal or questionable acts, so they fill the "immoral" category. Finally, you get the ones for pasta pots, sharp knives, and fancy things that spin the meat while it cooks. These things look exciting on TV, but when people buy them, they get used maybe 3 times at most before they just sit in the back of the cabinet (I know this one for a fact because we did it once). This is the "just stupid" category, because it's crazy to order some overpriced kitchen item, wait 3 months for it to be delivered, and then hardly ever use it.
There you have it: my concise, accurate explanation of infomercials.

very good question...but i dont think anyone has the answer to it =/

We, as Americans, are stupid & lazy. That is the most simple answer you will get. Instead of getiting up off the couch and doing something, we reach over, call in ander what the infomercial is selling, and don't bother to read the fine print at the bottom of the screen that says "These are unusually good scenarios, but your results may vary", or something along those lines.

because all of us believe in a quick fix rather than hard work and a conservative lifestyle. it comes from basic philosphy of life. i feel , belief in liberal failed tax and spend and social welfare philosophy is a proximate root cause. this country got along just fine until 1914 with no income tax and little social welfare. caring for others is fine but someone always has to pay the bill and liberals never seem to figure that out. as a result we look for a quick fix well never find.

Obviously, they don't work. I'm unwilling to try. I'm not overweight though, just broke. The solutions are not easy and if we had more of a sense of community and less of a sense of greed we wouldn't be so broke.
