Its done with cgi....much the same as Gollum in Lord of the Rings....they have a drummer playing and map its movement and then superimpose a Gorilla....much like they did in the King Kong film with Andy Serkis..did you see that...anyway thats how its done....They may well have used Phil Collins as the drummer...it did have his movements...such as the shaking of the shoulders and neck etc.

its an actor in a suit , but i gotta agree it does look real
the guy in the suit is a kinda gorilla specialist , he was in the movie congo , and he played a gorilla in that as well
