Days did really kill off John. But rumor is that this isn't the last we will see of Drake and that he will be coming back as a new character (with a wife and son) that looks like John but isn't him. There will be a connection however. This new character meets Marlena when his wife throws a party for their son who is a friend of Will's.
i think he retired for now! but he always seems to come back!

Many people have been emailing asking if John is really dead and Drake is really gone, and why Drake/John is not listed in the 'Comings and Goings.' Is John dead? Is Drake really gone? That is the million dollar question for which there is no real answer yet! That is why he is not yet listed in the 'Coming and Goings.' The current issue of Soap Opera Digest has an interview with Drake on his exit from the show, and it seems final from the interview. However there are no official statements from the show confirming Drake is truly gone and is not coming back. This has lead many, myself included, to wonder just what is going on. This is a soap and essentially time will tell if John is dead and staying dead. At this point it is wait and see what happens, or if statements are released that John/Drake is really gone and will not be coming back.
new Drake is currently in Australia on a media/promo tour. He did a show called "Mornings with Kerri Anne" this morning, along with Deidre and Thaao (Marlena and Tony). A user on youtube posted THIS clip in which a fan asks about John's death and Marlena seeking revenge. Deidre simply says they are 10 months behind so they won't talk about this . . . . "Everything is wonderful, stay with us." Hmmmmm . . . . . It's hard to say if Deidre didn't want to spoil what was coming up for Australians, who are 10 months behind the US, or if she didn't want to spill the beans about John's "Death."
I hope that they bring John back. He is one good looking man. I had always liked him and Marlena together.
I have been watching days almost since it began airing so that was many moons ago. And I was suprised to see John leaving the show the way he did. With that said I wouldnt say he retired or at least his character retired anyway. I think he will be back either him or someone else playing him and wouldnt suprise me if he has a memory loss or something and of course it all ties around the Demaras. I am curious to see how the Collene story unfolds and who they will bring in to play her character being as there was never a body found. Maybe she is the one who ran John down . Guess we will all have to wait and see. I know I will
