On Family Guy, can Stewie be heard by Lois and others ?!
Question: Me and my mum cannot agree on who can hear Stewie. I think that everyone can hear him but if you watch and imagine that Lois cant hear him, you can see that she is mainly responding to his actions. Please help !

There's an episode called, "15 minutes of Shame" and Meg has friends over for a slumber party. He asks them questions and they all seem to hear him just fine.
Nope.....The only one who can hear him is Brian

Is Stewie that little baby with the oval head? I don't think they can. There are other programmes which use the same technique though i can't remember which. I think it is just so the viewer can understand what is going on and what he is thinking. On malcolm in the middle he sometimes turns to the screen to say something and no one else hears.

I think Brian is the only one that can here him and the other kids. The rest of them never respond to him, just his actions.
Well I've wondered this too, and I think ddmunda is right it's only brian who hears what stewie says.
But what about brian? I mean he's a dog, yet he talks, drives a car, even married Lois in one episode, has been a teacher in the school, been on a tv dating show AND WON!! and they all behave like they can hear him so why not Stewie?
but we must also remember that this is an animated programme and isn't real!

Only Brian can understand what hes saying and hear him properly. The others just react to what hes doing, or how you would react to a baby in whatever situation. But hes still ace!
They hear him, but he is a baby and they treat him like one. When he blurts out something rude or crazy it's like a child picking up on a curse word. Some people find it amusing that their child says such odd things.

Him and Brian go back and forth arguing, which is funny. Everyone can understand him but it is about how they listen to him. Brian and Stewie go back and forth with each other, but everyone else sees Stewie talking as babble. They understand what he says, but don't pay any attention to it. In a few episodes, Lois calls Stewie cute and what-not after he threatens her. She has even scolded him once or twice for saying or doing something (like weapons are dangerous... or something to that effect). I don't remember any specifics, but I remember seeing certain episodes where it has happened. Hope this helps!
By the way, remember the episode where Stewie keeps saying Mommy in different ways and in different languages and then after a while Lois finally screams "WHAT!?!?" and he says "hi" and runs away? She understood him then. He knows how to talk and people understand him, but they probably just don't take him seriously just like I wouldn't take a kid seriously who said the stuff he does. I would pay more attention to it like Brian does, but it is just a show, so it can't be totally realistic.

I know brian can hear and understand him. But the others i never really know. on some episodes it seems they do and on others they dont.
The show is copletely crazy and off the wall.... i think its just another running joke.
more realistic would be that the dog listens to stewie but the parents dont

with dog being mans best friend and parents being occasional annoying and not listening
all maybe the dog can hear stewie and the parents only hear babble

No they cannot understand what he is saying! They do hear him, but I think they hear baby noises, instead of what he is actually saying. Some can here him, like Bryan and some of the random characters... but definitely not anyone in the family.

It's just a bit of schick that the writers use so that Stewie can say outlandish things without having to write a response for the other characters.
Cartoons are filled with characters like these. Like the Great Gazoo in "The Flintstones."
Simply put, when the other characters need to hear Stewie, they do. When they don't need to, they don't.
