Keeping up Appearances. It's British, about a woman who tries to pretend she has any social status, while two of her sisters are real slobs, her husband has given up caring, and her neighbors, the postman, and the vicar, are terrified of her.

The Bill Cosby Show offered positive examples of good black people, and parenting, by a COUPLE not a single mom, and the best situation comedy topping the great "I Love Lucy".
The best from England is John Cleese's crazy "Faulty Towers" (although it lasted a surprisingly few episodes). It's on PBS.
My homeland, Canada has great comedy sit-coms too, like the quirky "Corner Gas" on CTV and the wonderful, and very daring pro-Islam situation comedy "Little Mosque on the Prairie" on CBC.
These Canadian sit-coms both are current series, unlike the others above.
I could argue that "Little Mosque on the Prairie" is the most important situation comedy in this sin-cursed violent world.
Showing positive examples of love-able Muslims to a western audience affected by horrible Islamic anarchist murders!!!
