Can anyone explain to me how the BBC works?!

Question: I'm an American so I have no clue. Is it like, everything on your T.V. is a BBC channel. Like BBC 1 BBC 2 BBC3? Is BBC owned by one company? Does one specific channel focus on comedy or drama? Please help. I've always wondered.

The BBC is a very large media corporation, it runs many different channels each with a different target audience. The channels are not run for profit. It is owned by a trust - quasi state ownership although it is editorially independent from any government.

In my opinion £12 per month is fantastic value, the BBC.co.uk website is worth that on its own. It could be seen to be unfair that the licence fee is compulsory for anyone who owns a TV though.

There are now plenty of other TV and Radio providers. National and Regional independent channels, digital providers all competing with the BBC. But when I grew up there were just 2 BBC channels (1 and 2!) and then ITV, we got our 4th channel - another independent called innovatively Channel 4 in 1982(?). Now as I say there are dozens.

BBC1 is for entertainment, with BBC3 as extra shows to some BBC1 shows, as well as comedies such as Family Guy e.t.c

BBC2 is more of a factual channel

Yes, the BBC is owned by the same company.

they have lots of different services, and are very horrible and annoying as if you own a televison you have to pay the bbc lincease fees each year which are very expensive
