Who thinks Marie Osmond is a Drama Queen?!

Question: Marie Osmond faints at "dancing taping". And I quote; "Oh I forgot to breathe while I was dancing"! Give me a break, what is the matter with her; she is such a show off "Drama Queen",. I am getting so sick of hearing her "complaints". Anything for attention.. "shut up, Marie no one wants to hear it anymore".

It is quite possible that she suffers from syncope or neurally mediated syncope. I have been diagnosed with neurally mediated syncope and I can tell you that from what I saw, that was NO joke!! Please read the following - I truly believe Marie could have this:

What is syncope?

Syncope (SIN'ko-pe) is temporary loss of consciousness and posture, described as "fainting" or "passing out." It's usually related to temporary insufficient blood flow to the brain. It's a common problem, accounting for 3 percent of emergency room visits and 6 percent of hospital admissions.

It most often occurs when the blood pressure is too low (hypotension) and the heart doesn't pump a normal supply of oxygen to the brain.

What causes syncope?

It may be caused by emotional stress, pain, pooling of blood in the legs due to sudden changes in body position, overheating, dehydration, heavy sweating or exhaustion. Syncope may occur during violent coughing spells (especially in men) because of rapid changes in blood pressure. It also may result from several heart, neurologic, psychiatric, metabolic and lung disorders. And it may be a side effect of some medicines.

Some forms of syncope suggest a serious disorder:

* those occurring with exercise
* those associated with palpitations or irregularities of the heart
* those associated with family history of recurrent syncope or sudden death

What is neurally mediated syncope?

Neurally mediated syncope (NMS) is called also neurocardiogenic, vasovagal, vasodepressor or reflex mediated syncope. It's a benign (and the most frequent) cause of fainting. However, life-threatening conditions may also manifest as syncope. NMS is more common in children and young adults, although it can occur at any age. NMS happens because blood pressure drops, reducing circulation to the brain and causing loss of consciousness. Typical NMS occurs while standing and is often preceded by a sensation of warmth, nausea, lightheadedness and visual "grayout." If the syncope is prolonged, it can trigger a seizure. Placing the person in a reclining position will restore blood flow and consciousness and end the seizure.

AHA Recommendation

The majority of children and young adults with syncope have no structural heart disease or significant arrhythmia (abnormal heart rhythm). So, extensive medical work-up is rarely needed. A careful physical examination by a physician, including blood pressure and heart rate measured lying and standing, is generally the only evaluation required.

In other cases an electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG) is used to test for abnormal heart rhythms such as long Q-T syndrome. This is a genetic heart condition that can cause sudden cardiac death. Other tests, such as exercise stress test, Holter monitor, echocardiogram, etc. may be needed to rule out other cardiac causes of syncope.

If EKG and cardiac tests are normal, the person will undergo a tilt test. The blood pressure and heart rate will be measured while lying down on a board and after the board is tilted up. Someone who has NMS will usually faint during the tilt, due to the rapid drop in blood pressure and heart rate. As soon as the person is placed on his or her back again, blood flow and consciousness are restored.

To help prevent syncope, people with NMS should be on a high-salt diet and drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration and maintain blood volume. They should watch for the warning signs of fainting — dizziness, nausea and sweaty palms — and sit or lie down if they feel the warning signs. Some people also may need medication.

that was a legitimate faint...what's your deal?

I'm not sure how much you know about Marie Osmond, but she has been through a lot emotionally and personally in her life... I think it's great that she's doing Dancing with the Stars.

sorry not me i love her and donny there great.

I think it's more than she's admitting. She has a history of bulemia. Imagine having to dance in front of all America in those skimpy outfits in YOUR 50's! I think it may have sent her into some of her old habits stemming from her insecurities about her body. Just a thought...hope I'm wrong.

I can relate with her...i used to have that happen when i got to excited and panic ed during certain situations

Really? It sounded to me like she was trying to forget about and not to talk about it. How was she being a drama queen?

Seems to me like maybe you're the one that's the "Drama Queen".
Why else would you ask a question like this when there must be millions of people that saw Marie faint FOR REAL!!!
By doing that you've just showed alot of people what a show off YOU are which really means YOU are the one with the problem, not Marie!

Ok whatever you say.

I don't get it, she said she had a history of doing this, putting herself in this kind of danger, and that's what it is, is really not too swift....but I don't think she is or was a drama queen about it, I thoungt she really tried to down play it....you think she's a drama queen....you ought to meet some of my mates!!!!! LOL

Marie was overwhelmed with dancing on LIVE Tv, and combined with an exhausting week and the anxiety of it all, it just caught up with her. I'm sure she didn't "plan" it. GIve her a break! She does have a habit of trying to make a joke out of a lot of things and it doesn't come across as funny.

She is a 48 year old mother of 8, I would faint too. She just got done dancing a big fast passed dance, then she jumped around all crazy like. Her heart rate got up to high and that left her blood pressure low in the brain, that alone will make you faint. I had to wear a heart monitor for a few weeks because of passing out. I really doubt she would pass out on air knowing it would be all over the news for the next few weeks. She also is doing a diet and has lost four inches off her waist and hips. I say way to go Marie.

No I don't think she is a drama queen. I think she has been working hard and has a lot going on in hier life right now and it just probably caught up to her.

I am 45 and I have been watching her and that is a lot of work, I don't think it is that easy. I would have passed out too. I probably would be in a coma for a few hours too.....She has lost weight and that is alot of practicing and then dancing in front of people no to mention the pressure of it being a competition.Kudos.......to her I wish I had the energy.

People do faint. You don't plan on that happening it just does. That certainly doesn't make her a drama queen.
