One of the best educational shows my kids like to watch is the Magic Schoolbus. It has a lot to do w/ science. Pretty neat show. It's a cartoon.
Arthur, Teletubbies, Rugrats, Read Between the Lions, most of these are on PBS.
Backyardigans...pretty much anything on Noggin or PBS during the day.
Check PBS in the morning. None of theirs are violent. Also Nick Jr or Noggin are good channels. Nick Jr is just Nick before noon.

I would highly recommend "Noggin or PBS" for children's shows. They are education and non violent. My boys love them. Arthur, Curious George and Blues Clues are favorites... Bob the Builder also is a top notch.
