No. I was of the impression that they had to lose these jobs because the TV Licence fee could not be raised to equal the funding that the likes of Sky and Independant TV advertising could generate. Yet another British institution going to the dogs under the current regime.

Bit daft if you were to ask me, you cut people, you'll cut the programs available and only increase re-runs ... how will this in any way be seen as better value for the licence fee ? The tip of the BBC's demise maybe.
You must be joking, if the BBC can`t make money out of all the unfair licence money they receive there is not much hope of a reduction. In my opinion they have been sitting pretty at our expense. The rest of the broadcasting companies have to go out and work to get there programs aired. The BBC have had an unfair advantage for years and just got greedy paying Fat Cat wages to a few undeserving people.
It would be the biggest surprise going if they did!!!
No, the BBC have had problems with funding for years. To be fair they have still maintained a high standard of service world wide.
Since the 80's a high percentage of the technical jobs have been on short term contract anyway.
I work as a make up artist (for all TV and film) and most crews are hired for the production and no longer, so a lot of the staff are freelance already.
Since the advent of digital the BBC have had to provide further channels for radio, TV and other services in order to compete with the commercial channels. Yet the budget has not been expanded to the same degree. To be able to keep the high standard that is expected by the veiwer, the political and moral majority is increasingly tough.
So you may think you are paying a lot but but you are still getting a unique service. Sorry mate.
