but some people like it so
i dont watch it since i have sky

the tv licence ought to be abolished.

Yes, I think it should be split up and privatised (all the shares belong to us), and the licence fee abolished.

Repeats?? why bother? If they don't have anything new to show they should turn off the transmistters and save the power and so the environment!

OK, get rid of it. We need more channels like Bravo & Sky that show nothing but imported sh*te & biased news coverage. Great idea.

ABOLISH IT ! DONT DESERVE A LICENCE FEE

Abolish the BBC ? no sir, abolish the license fee ? Yes.
bring in advertising and auntie will go on for ever. They can
then have a channel for repeats like Sky.

Why do so many people blame the licence fee on the BBC and more importantly expect it to be free?

It is a service like any other. I see nobody complaining about paying for electric or gas or the Internet or their telephone.

The licence fee is a bill we pay to receive television signals into our houses, like we pay bills to receive other services into our houses. You think all those that work at the BBC do it for nothing?

So what, there are repeats. Turn over, switch off, pay more money for Sky... anything, just stop blaming the BBC for the fact that you have to get a licence fee when the BBC isn't even the main culprit for having one. Let's for once have a go at ITV shall we? Maybe channel 4... after-all they also share the blame.

I'm fed up with people who can't seem to grasp the fact that television is a service like any other. If you don't like it, don't have a television.

My cat coughs up better stuff than the bloody BBC. Phuk 'em.

No, you'll find repeats on every channel, and good for them too. Not every person has seen every program... and I bet you don't complain at Christmas when you're spoilt for choice because the old classics are being shown again.

Anyway, the fee is not solely for the BBC. If you read the small print on your licence, you'll see it entitles you to use receiving equipment in your house. This covers all television signals (yep even all the American imports), and not just specific channels*, so you can't be blaming the BBC.

If anything, the ad-free Beeb is probably one of the better providers out there. At least they cover a range of programmes instead of sticking to one theme (i.e. all soaps on ITV and teen angst and dodgy fashion on Channel Four).

You say that the government wants us to be in accordance with the rest of Europe, yet is it them, and not the BBC, you should be moaning about.
It is the government approved and controlled Communications Act that rules you need a licence in the first place. Plus, you'll find that television isn't free in any other country either. They may not have licence fees as such, but providers still charge for their services, as does any company.

A licence is £135.50 a year. Personally, I don't mind paying a paltry 37 pence a day (£11.29 a month) for the entertainment a television provides. I can put up with the odd repeat, so why can't you? There is always the off button...

* "Under the Communications Act 2003, you need a television licence to receive or record television programmes. This applies if they are received by a satellite, cable or land based transmitter. If you are watching any satellite service, controlled from within or outside the UK, you must have a television licence."

no it shouldn't be abolished...its the public broadcaster .... but the T.V. licence should go
