Question: well...i've never watched it until last night and I'm a little confused. When they (KG & PH) were in their office on the show last night, she said something about her daughter inheriting a gene from him. That led me to believe they had had a child together. But all throughout the rest of the show, their coworkers acted as if they'd never been together. In fact, they were saying they had the hots for each other. So....did they have a child together or didn't they? Thanks!!

They had a one night stand before he went off to another town for another job. She tried to call him to tell him she was pregnant. He never returned her calls. She eventually gave up and raised the child on her own.
He came back to town and it was revealed that her daughter is his.
He is a bit self centered so she doesn't really want him to be a part of her daughter's life. Yet he and his daughter really click together.

In the pilot episode we discovered that right before he (kelsey grammers character) left pittsburgh he and heatons character had a fling and in the pilot episode she told him that gracie was his daughter she tried to deny it but when he overheard a phone conversation between her and gracie and discovered she had the same rare peanut allergy that he has he knew it for sure. They seem to be hiding it from everyone else though.
