Don't worry, you didn't miss it. They haven't told us yet. We're missing 4 months of time from the end of last season... which I'm sure they'll get back to at some point.
The show has yet to explain it, but it has been applied that he had developed a drinking problem since peter has disappeared.
yeah i guess blowing up with his brother kinda messed his head up, they haven't showed what happened after the explosion, but it looks like he hit the bottle pretty hard, nice beard though
In the last episode of Season 1, Nathan came up at the last minute and flew Peter away from NYC so half a million people wouldn't be killed. It's never been completely explored, so a lot of this is conjecture. We all know Peter could absorb powers, so I always assumed he would fly away from Nathan so that he (Nathan) wouldn't be killed. Nathan and everyone else is assuming that Peter is dead, but Claire's powers of regeneration saved him - he's just lost in Ireland and has amnesia. I personally believe, and this is opinion, that Nathan's drinking was caused by his guilt over not helping Peter sooner because he was listening to their mother. As a result, and because the whole political thing was her idea and the idea of the rest of the Company, he has rejected them and crawled into a bottle. Which would also explain why his wife left him; it's hard to live with a drunk who doesn't want help. Now that he's stopped drinking, perhaps she will be back. I saw a trailer that shows Nathan finding out next week that Peter is still alive.
From what I've heard, Episode 8 is titled "Four Months Ago" so we'll find out everything that happened at that time.
