Does anyone know how the people who audition get selected for Who Wants To Be A !
Question: I don't normally watch the programme but had it running in the background whilst using the computer. The contestants obviously aren't chosen because of their basic general knowledge judging by some of the questions they couldn't answer on tonight's show. The first contestand didn't seem to know what time of day it was. So do they get selected by their willingness to wave and smile at the camera?

you ring up and have to answer a question(it is all automated) then you are rung back and have to answer around 5 questions. If succesful you are invited along to elstree studios to audition and fill out forms i.e if you have a criminal record etc. then if you are Really lucky you are put into the fastest finger round!!!!
They ask people "are you thick?"
they just choose an equal number of those who say yes or no
That's why they call it 50/50
i think its a random rip off ￡1.50 a minte phone in, my fiend has been on the stand in waiting list for over a year though
When you telephone to go on the show you get asked questions and it depends on whether you get them all right and then they select people who were the best and phone them up to be invited on the show for auditions
It's a phone in, you answer the question advertised on the programme and get randomly selected. You then have to win a quick fire question to put a sequence of dates in order to win your place in the chair. My mate won ￡16000 on the show and it paid for his wedding.

The inbetween step between the phone in and the show is that about a hundred people are picked at random from the phone-in and programme researchers phone them back asking them a question like How long is the Nile ? The 10 nearest to the correct answer appear on the show.
